About Norberg Paints: Over 125 years of Sioux Falls History
A lot of big things were happening in 1885: Grover Cleveland was inaugurated as the 22nd President, the Statue of Liberty arrived from France, Mark Twain wrote Huckleberry Finn, and a stamp was just 2 cents. It’s also the year Norberg Paints began a four-generation business in Sioux Falls. And South Dakota wasn’t event a state, yet!
It all started when S. Albert came to America from Sweden in 1882. He and his brother Peter worked as painters in Sioux Falls, but the midst of a severe winter, set their sites on moving to California. Packed up and walking north on Philips Avenue to the train station, they met a contractor who offered them a large job and the chance to work all winter. They stayed and eventually bought out that same contractor. Norberg Brothers was started.
